Video Consultations

Coming to Aberfeldy Medical Practice on 1st June 2020 we will have video consultations available.  The links are all on our website.  There is a link telling you about this service and a link which you will click on to access the service for your appointment.

Triage

In an effort to deal with the high volume of appointment requests we are introducing a triage system for same day requests to ensure you are seen by the most appropriate healthcare professional at the right time.

If you are requesting a same day appointment, including urgent or home visit please call the practice between 8am and 9am. Our reception team will need to ask you to provide a brief description of the issue and take your telephone details so that a doctor can call you back before 10am.

The doctor will assess your health needs and direct you to the most appropriate health professional such as a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or advise you of self help. You may not always need to see a doctor, or the doctor may be able to help you over the phone. In the event that you need to be seen then the doctor will allocate one of the ‘on the day appointments’, or if your problem is more routine or on-going you will be offered one of our pre-bookable slots.

The doctor will attempt to phone you on the given contact number once. The doctor cannot leave messages on answer phones owing to patient confidentiality issues.

Requests for routine appointments will not be triaged and can be booked by telephone, online or in person at the reception desk.

Cancelling your Appointment

If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone reception staff at the appropriate surgery. By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.

Welcome

The doctors and staff welcome all patients to our practice and our website.  We are a professional and friendly team caring for approximately 4,500 patients in Aberfeldy, Kinloch Rannoch and the surrounding areas.

We run a comprehensive health promotion and disease management service. This includes advice on asthma, diabetes, heart and blood vessel disorders, HRT, contraception and child health to name a few.

We are very fortunate to operate from two purpose built premises, one in Aberfeldy and one in Kinloch Rannoch. All of our clinical services are run from rooms on the ground floor to ensure ease of access.

Video Consultations

We are introducing Video Consultations called Near Me (Attend Anywhere) at the Aberfeldy practice starting on the 1st June. This is a fully secure system which is used very widely by secondary care services within NHS Tayside and in other health board areas and using it allows clinical staff to communicate with their patients without the need for them to attend a medical establishment in person to do so. More information can be obtained from https://www.nearme.scot/

How it works

Before starting please make sure you use one of the following web browsers:  Google Chrome or Apple Safari.

Once you have been given a time for your video appointment, simply go to https://nhsattend.vc/aberfeldykinlochrannochmp - You will then be prompted to enter your full name, date of birth and your telephone number. This information is vital and must be completed at all times.

Once you have entered this information and accepted the terms and conditions, you will then be taken to a virtual “waiting area” to wait for the doctor or nurse to connect with you at your appointment time. We would ask that you please allow 10-15 minutes either side of your booked time slot to allow for your clinician running slightly ahead or over time with other patients.

The system works on a smartphone, tablet, laptop or a computer which has a video camera installed on it. To get the most out of the experience, we advise that you ensure that your device has the most up to date software version on it. The system works best where there is at least a 4G or Wi-Fi connection available. It will not work on a 3G signal.

When might a video consultation be suitable?

Here are a few examples of when a video consultation might be an appropriate option. This list is not exhaustive but is intended to be used as a reference point for patients who might be interested in using this option.

  • Some skin lesions
  • Rashes
  • Acne
  • Simple urinary tract infections
  • Some mental health related problems (stress, anxiety or low mood/depression reviews)
  • Reviews of conditions (usually these are requested by a GP)
  • Medication related issues where a community pharmacist cannot help
  • Continuation of a sick line (Fit Note) where GP input is required
  • Housebound patients where a GP visit is being requested or considered

Changes to Access as a result of COVID-19

We are currently restricting access for the safety of all patients and staff.

The practice remains open for all essential primary care problems but on the advice of Health Protection Scotland we have put in place a process whereby everyone is screened by telephone prior to being seen.

All patients will still have access to the care they require.

We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time.

Please phone NHS24 on 111 if you feel you need require medical advice and we will call you back.

If you are self isolating and need a sick line for your employer visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/
