Planning on having private treatment/surgery in the UK or abroad?
Please be aware that the whole episode of the treatment should be provided by the private provider, i.e. blood tests and other tests, suture removal, dressing changes, routine wound check, prescribing during your episode of private treatment, etc., and the Practice should not be involved in any aspects of this episode of treatment, with the exception of emergency care relating to the treatment.
It is also the private providers responsibility to issue a Fit Note covering the entire anticipated period off work, but if any longer time off is then required when you are no longer under the care of the provider then this would be the practice responsibility.
Pregablin and Gabapentin have been reclassified as controlled drugs by the NHS. If you are prescribed these medications then the following will now apply:
- Prescriptions cannot be sent electronically to the chemist so will be printed and signed.
- The maximum amount we can now prescribe is 30 days
- These items will be removed from repeat prescribing and must now be requested.
- The script must be dispensed within 28 days or it becomes invalid
We do appreciate the disruption these changes may cause some patients however, although the change in classification to a controlled drug is beyond our control, it does represent the significance of these medications. Our medical system has been updated to reflect these changes and we cannot override this.
Important Information about a change in your Emollient
The practice is currently reviewing the emollients that we prescribe with a view to providing our patients with the most appropriate and cost-effective product currently available. As a result, we may change your future prescriptions for Dermol, Doublebase, Diprobase, Oilatum etc. to a more cost-effective alternative.
Even though the emollient may look slightly different it should be used in exactly the same way. You can be assured this product contains identical or very similar active ingredients to your original emollient and you should notice no difference in effectiveness.
To avoid waste, please carry on using your current emollient until you need to order your next prescription.
As the new preparation is more cost-effective, the savings made can be used to fund other health services in the area. Please do not hesitate to contact the practice if you would like more information or if you have any concerns with this change.
Diabetic Flash Glucose Monitoring (Libre)
NHS Tayside has agreed to make Flash Glucose Monitoring (Libre) technology available to people with diabetes who meet the criteria.
Please note the decision to commence/discontinue the use of Freestyle Libre will be made by the Specialist Diabetes Team. Patients will require to attend an education session (available every week) and then a letter will be issued to their GP recommending prescription.

To register for this service please print and complete this Registration Form and hand it to reception. Registration forms also available at reception. Photographic ID is required to register for this service.
Once we have completed your registration you will be emailed registration details where you will then be able to book/cancel appointments and request repeat medication.

We have introduced sending SMS text messages to remind patients of booked appointments. For this service consent is required please download Consent Form and hand into reception.

Failed to Attend Appointments
In 2018 475 appointments were missed which equates to 80 hours of consulting time. Please remember to cancel your appointment if you are unable to attend.

Treatment of dental problems/infections
As recommended by the British Medical Association (BMA) we are unable to provide treatment for Dental problems/infections, the General Medical Council (GMC) requires doctors to have appropriate skills for any treatment that they offer. We advise patients with dental problems to contact their registered dentist in the first instance, however, GPs can provide advice to ascertain that the conditioni requires only dental treatment. If you do not have a registered dentist, access to emergency dental services can be arranged by contacting NHS 111. The practice is unable to re-issue any prescriptions prescribed by a dentist.
