Triage appointment system

 

 

In an effort to deal with the high volume of appointment requests we are introducing a triage system for same day requests to ensure you are seen by the most appropriate healthcare professional at the right time.

 

If you are requesting a same day appointment, including urgent or home visit please call the practice between 8am and 9am. Our reception team will need to ask you to provide a brief description of the issue and take your telephone details so that a doctor can call you back before 10am.

 

The doctor will assess your health needs and direct you to the most appropriate health professional such as a doctor, nurse, pharmacist or advise you of self help. You may not always need to see a doctor, or the doctor may be able to help you over the phone. In the event that you need to be seen then the doctor will allocate one of the ‘on the day appointments’, or if your problem is more routine or on-going you will be offered one of our pre-bookable slots.

 

The doctor will attempt to phone you on the given contact number once. The doctor cannot leave messages on answer phones owing to patient confidentiality issues.

 

Requests for routine appointments will not be triaged and can be booked by telephone, online or in person at the reception desk.

 

Cancelling your Appointment

If you are unable to attend an appointment with one of the doctors or nurses, please telephone reception staff at the appropriate surgery. By giving us as much notice as you can you are helping us to make sure that someone else is given your slot.

Temporary Registration

If you are ill while away from home or if you are not registered with a doctor but need to see one you can receive emergency treatment from the local GP practice for 14 days. After 14 days you will need to register as a temporary or permanent patient.

You can be registered as a temporary patient for up to three months. This will allow you to be on the local practice list and still remain a patient of your permanent GP. After three months you will have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

To register as a temporary patient simply contact the local practice you wish to use. Practices do not have to accept you as a temporary patient although they do have an obligation to offer emergency treatment. You cannot register as a temporary patient at a practice in the town or area where you are already registered.
